For 40 years, Communities In Schools of San Antonio has been helping students achieve in school, graduate, and go on to bright futures. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Every day, our team collaborates closely with schools, families, and community partners to address the various barriers students face—whether academic, emotional, or related to basic needs. Through personalized support and caring relationships, we help students build confidence, stay engaged, and reach their full potential.

The following key facts highlight the scope, strategy, and outcomes of Communities In Schools of San Antonio. As an organization rooted in evidence-based practices, CIS-SA works in close partnership with schools, families, and community stakeholders to remove barriers to student success.

  • Established in 1985, Communities In Schools of San Antonio (CIS-SA) is the local affiliate of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization.
  • CIS-SA operates on an evidence-based model that places trained Site Coordinators and Licensed Counselors on campuses to identify student needs and connect them with tailored supports.
  • Our work aligns with state and federal education goals by addressing chronic absenteeism, mental health, academic recovery, and college/career readiness.
  • We serve students in over 120 schools across 14 school districts in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, providing both school-wide support and individualized case management.
  • In the 2023–24 school year, over 11,000 students received intensive, case-managed support, with 99% staying in school and 98% of eligible seniors graduating.
