Javier and Cecilia

Javier and Cecilia are brother and sister. Javier is in kindergarten and is an outgoing and very caring individual, often worrying more about the well-being of others than his own. Cecilia is in the 2nd grade and tends to be shy, but she also prioritizes others’ needs over her own. The siblings both faced challenges in interacting with their peers, making friends, and feeling like they belonged, but for different reasons. Javier struggled to interact with students his age, while Cecilia struggled to open up to those around her. Their Site Coordinator, Salma, began working with both students in groups to develop their interpersonal skills and individually as a supportive presence to help them navigate their interactions. Since working with the siblings, Salma has observed them improve in their social interactions, not only with their peers but also with adults on campus. They have opened up, are outgoing, and have a positive mindset.
