Gustavo Gonzales Jr. is a Site Coordinator for Communities In Schools of San Antonio with over 15 years of program experience in the field of working with diverse students from multiple school districts throughout San Antonio. In addition to providing services to students as a Site Coordinator, Gustavo is a lead facilitator for the XY-Zone Male Leadership initiative. He began his first 5 years working with the TRIO programs Talent Search program and later on earned the privilege to pilot the XY-Zone Program at Sam Houston High School. Overall, Gustavo has a combined 20 years -experience working with at-risk youth in South Texas. In 2000, Gustavo earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Texas A & M- Corpus Christi where he was inducted into the National Sociological Honor Society and earned his name on the Dean’s List senior year for his successful academic achievement. In 2013, Gustavo was named Employee of the year for Communities In Schools of San Antonio for his hard work and dedication to the XY-Zone Program. When he is not working hard with inner city at risk youth, Gustavo enjoys spending time in the outdoors, celebrating with family, and trying hard not to be the worst fisherman in Texas. He is currently motivated to expand the XY-Zone program in San Antonio by adding key components to the model such as post -secondary mentoring, academic sessions, and an improved XY-Zone camping experience.
