Growing up was never easy for Elektra. Life felt like a constant battle, requiring strength and resilience. Even flipping tires became a way to channel stress and push forward.
Placed in six foster homes, she never truly felt she belonged. Though adopted, her home situation became difficult, forcing her to leave at 2 AM, uncertain of what lay ahead. School and the support of CIS-SA, along with her Site Coordinator, Aisling, became her refuge.
When financial struggles threatened her education, Aisling stepped in to help. She provided essentials, encouragement, and a safe space, helping Elektra stay in school. At times, she felt like giving up, but Aisling reminded her of her worth.
Determined to join the Army, Elektra faced setbacks and rejection. Aisling connected her with counselors and recruiters, helping her find a way forward. Eventually, she received the news—her path to the Army was open.
Elektra’s journey proves the power of perseverance and the impact of CIS-SA. “We should continue to support CIS because sometimes, when a kid has nothing, that program means everything,” said Elektra.
”“I don’t think my story is going to end,” she said. “Even when I graduate from boot camp, I’m still going to keep going.”
